Making a Difference

Volunteers are a vital part of Westside Family Health Center’s services and operations. We depend on the hard work of volunteers—student interns and seasoned professionals alike—to help us in our mission to provide comprehensive, high quality, cost effective health care in an educational and supportive environment that empowers patients to take an assertive role in caring for their well-being through all stages of life. Over the years volunteers have donated countless hours, providing skills and expertise in the areas of healthcare, outreach, administration and special events.

Young Grannies

Every Baby Should Have a Blankie is the motto of Young Grannies, WFHC volunteers who donate handmade blankets to our infants. Becoming a Young Granny is easy. All you need is a love for knitting, crocheting or quilting.

Please use the following guidelines when making a baby blankie:

• Use soft, comfortable fabrics and yarns that are easily washable.
• Blankies should measure no larger than 40 inches by 40 inches and no smaller than 35 inches by 35 inches.
• Go wild with the colors: traditional pastels are appreciated as much as bright colors.
• Make sure blankies are safe in that there are no buttons, snaps or other items that baby can swallow.

Simply mail or drop off your blankie at WFHC, along with a completed Young Grannies donation form.

In 2006, Westside Family Health Center honored Young Grannies with the Gene Parks, M.D., Community Volunteer Service Award.
